Description

Nuri mackerel in olive oil with spices brings a heat to your quick lunch spread. The mackerel is canned with olive oil and salt, giving the fish a rich, well-rounded flavour. Chilli, cloves and black pepper give this mackerel a fiery edge. Serve the spicy mackerel on buttered bread for a traditional Portuguese snack or toss through tomato spaghetti.

Nuri is one of the oldest – and most iconic – brands of Portuguese tinned fish. The name Nuri comes from the Arabic word for ‘my light’, and this is what a customer exclaimed when they first saw the shiny sardines in the tin. The artisanal production process is steeped in tradition, with 37 steps required to produce a single Nuri tin.
